5 Useful Web Applications for International Students

Living in the 21st century definitely has its perks and can make the lives of international students so much easier. We'd like to tell you about 5 apps that will do just that - make it easier for you to be away from home, to be studying in a foreign country and to stay focused and productive.

1. Grammarly

This app is a lifesaver when it comes to checking your essays, emails or even text you want to send out. English is not the first language for most of us, so it is only natural that we make mistakes. If you are unsure about the correct way of phrasing something Grammarly will help! You can use it as a plug-in on your laptop or an app on your smartphone. Grammarly plug-in scans what you type automatically and highlights your mistakes. Also, it is not your average Microsoft Word grammar checker where things can get worse if you follow all these 'useful' suggestions. Grammarly is actually smart. In fact, I'm using it right now!

2. Cite This For Me

International students often face so many challenges when it comes to referencing and citing in academic work. We are just not really used to all these styles and different ways of referencing, so we spent hours trying to figure it out. What if I told you there someone could do it for you? Unfortunately, Cite This For Me have no app available in the US app store, but their website is just as useful! Try it out.

3. Converter+

We are all wondering why the metrics system in the US is the way it is... Things could've been so much easier if only... ok, I won't go there. Since we all have to accept it and learn to deal with it, here is an app that will help - Converter+. It offers pretty much anything you need, even Tip Calculator! No more painful googling of how cold is 30F in C'. You are welcome!

4. Trello

Adulting is ain't easy. Adulting while being an international student is at least 2x harder. If you feel like it is time to get organized, to lay out all the deadlines and actually be able to deliver on them, to plan out your errands so that you don't do everything last minute anymore then Trello is what you need! But it is not just an online planner with an option to assign different colors to different tasks... that wouldn't have been worth recommending. It actually is a platform that allows you to collaborate and plan together with whomever - your team, your roommate, your family, etc. Check it out, it is super useful not just in day-to-day life but for group projects that we all love so much...

5. Circle of 6

Unfortunately, living far from home doesn't only bring excitement to life, but also makes you more vulnerable due to lack of knowledge of the new place you live in or even of the new culture you are surrounded by. Circle of 6 helps you stay safe in different situations like getting home, getting out of threatening situations an even out of unpleasant date nights. You can set up a circle of 6 trusted contacts and reach them any time with just 2 clicks, letting them know what you need. We always think that whatever happens to others can never happen to us, until it does happen. So it's better to be safe than sorry, prepare yourself for the worst and hope that you will never have to use this app.

That would be it, for now, I hope you find these apps useful and if you have any other recommendations you'd like to share I would love to read those in the comments here or on social media.
